Mysuru, 25 June

State BJP General Secretary Preetham Gowda told BJP members to take the Election Commission’s (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls seriously, as even sitting MLAs and former MLAs could be removed if they failed to provide exact information during the drive.

“This is not an exercise of deletion or inclusion of voters. A new voters list will be prepared by this exercise,” Gowda said on Thursday at a Mysuru district BJP meeting held at a hotel.

He therefore appealed to party workers, MLAs, Gram Panchayat members, MCC council members to take up the process with utmost seriousness.

BJP’S future depends on SIR

Gowda said that the party’s future depends on the success of SIR.

“The increasing number of voters, voting percentage in upcoming elections will be an added advantage to BJP candidates in the country,” he said. “It will be considered a setback for the party if they fail to be involved in this exercise.”

He called upon party workers to open special desks and help citizens understand the documents required, to ensure that genuine voters are not deleted.

‘SIR needed for 'One Nation, One Election'

Gowda said that the SIR exercise is also important in the larger interest of the party. It is crucial for the BJP’s vision of achieving ‘One Nation, One Election’ and the delimitation exercise.

“The future of Indian elections will be decided not by the influence of caste. It will be decided by the success of SIR,” he said.
